Four DP-40 laser direct imaging systems sold in Europe in 1998

Keywords Direct imaging, Jenoptik, Orbotech

Orbotech SA, has announced that four DP-40 laser direct imaging (LDI) systems have been sold in Europe in 1998. The DP-40 was originally developed by Jenoptik GmbH of Jena, Germany as a first generation LDI system. Since Orbotech entered into a joint venture with Jenoptik, called Laser Imaging Systems GmbH & Co. KG, the goal had been to develop the next generation high speed, large format LDI system. However, at the same time Orbotech sought to continue to develop the marketplace for LDI and to allow customers and resist suppliers to gain more experience with direct imaging. To this end, Orbotech decided to continue selling the DP-40 system to selected partners in Europe.

Companies who have purchased the DP-40 are: Zlin Electronics Ltd, UK, Sogeg SA, PECI SA and ERE SA, all of France. All four of these companies are high technology prototype manufacturers of PCBs. They all see the current generation of LDI as a way to make small quantities of fine line PCBs. They also are looking to gain experience of the next generation of LDI. Orbotech will work closely with these companies to get feedback on the needs and requirements for the next generation of LDI which is currently under development at LIS (Laser Imaging Systems).
