IPC board welcomes Universal Instruments' president

Keyword: IPC

For the first time in its 42-year history, the IPC Board of Directors includes representation from the assembly equipment industry. Gerhard Meese, president of Universal Instruments Corporation, has joined the IPC Board.

The agreement made late last year merging the Surface Mount Equipment Manufacturers' Association (SMEMA) with IPC included SMEMA representation on the IPC Board. Meese will serve as the liaison between the IPC Board and the SMEMA Council steering committee.

"The synergies we expected from the merger of IPC and SMEMA are already being demonstrated as we integrate SMEMA and IPC programs in the areas of statistical programs, standards and the new APEX tradeshow and conference," says Meese. "I look forward to serving on the IPC Board and contributing to the strategic direction of IPC; an organization which I have found to be open, responsive, agile and truly representative of its members."

Meese has been with Universal Instruments since 1971, founding Universal Instruments GmbH in Germany just a year later. In 1983, he became European Operations Manager. Meese was later named executive vice-president and general manager of Universal's Machine Division, and in 1991 assumed the role of president.

Meese holds an engineering degree in electronics from Hanover School of Engineering in Hanover, Germany.
