PCIF restructures for twenty-first century

PCIF restructures for twenty-first century

Keywords: PCIF, Organizational restructuring

Having successfully led the PCIF from inception to its current position as one of the electronics industry's leading trade associations, executive director Brian Haken (Plate 1) is looking to retire "in the not too distant future".

Although it will be some years yet before he takes this step, the PCIF Board has decided to restructure its staffing arrangements to take into account both his eventual departure and the twenty-first century needs of its members. "The PCIF is moving into the new millennium with new ideas and value-added initiatives for its membership", said a Federation spokesman.

Haken is stepping down as executive director and assuming the role of PCIF non-executive director with special responsibility for economic and political affairs. In his new role he will support the Federation's two directors in achieving the PCIF management board's mandates.

Haken has informed the board that, as before, he will continue to ensure that the needs of the UK's printed circuit board (PCB), electronics manufacturing services (EMS) and respective design and supply industries are fully represented to the Department of Trade and Industry and the European Commission.

His new role will allow him time to pursue other commercial interests, notably as a non-executive director with recently launched PCB industry e-business facilitator, Info-Elec, whose Internet service (PCB007.com) offers an impartial service to buyers and sellers of printed circuit boards. Haken has confirmed that he will be working to both promote this e-business initiative while at the same time seeking to ensure that the UK's PCB industry will benefit at the highest level and not be compromised in any way.
