Michael Hawley offers thought provoking ideas at Expo 2001

IPC has announced that Michael Hawley, Dreyfoos professor of Media Technology at MIT, will be a featured keynote speaker on Thursday 5 April at IPC Printed Circuits Expo, being held 1-5 April 2001, at the Anaheim Convention Center, Anaheim, USA.

Hawley's keynote presentation will begin 5 April at 11 a.m. and he will address the audience on "Things that think". According to Hawley's research, some groundbreaking implications for future technology include the possibility that someday your shoes, clothes and appliances will be doing the thinking for you. Hawley's applications are being pioneered with his current "Things that think" project, which concludes that in the not too distant future, computer power will be harnessed to serve people's every need.

Hawley has earned degrees in music and computer science from Yale and conducted postgraduate studies at MIT under artificial intelligence pioneer Marvin Minsky. Recent projects include serving as an assistant with digital camera developments for Lucasfilm, Ltd. and working as an architect of Steve Jobs' NeXT computer.

From shoes that monitor your health, to refrigerators that count calories, Hawley's implications for life in the twenty-first century will continue to make audiences think.
