New technical centre for PWB finishes

Shipley has opened a new £1M Technical Centre at their Coventry location, providing advanced research facilities for Shipley's PWB and EIF businesses in Europe.

Existing R&D laboratories have been refurbished and expanded to create a single, central research resource. The new facilities include laboratories for Electronic and Industrial Finishing, PWB research, advanced technology engineering and a state of the art applications facility. Along with all the other new equipment, we have invested in a brand new scanning electron microscope.

The PWB research team is currently focused on metalization processes and making holes conductive (MHC), including desmear, electroless copper and direct plate technologies. Advanced technology engineering uses its considerable expertise in PWB processing, metalization and imaging technologies to work closely with the research teams in field testing and new product commercialization. Engineers also conduct applications studies for customers in the applications facility, or at customer sites.

The new applications facility houses a range of small-scale PWB process equipment for simulated “real world” customer trails and product scaleup prior to launch. A new horizontal electroless copper module is about to be added to the facility, completing the range of complimentary horizontal equipment.
