Article Type: Industry news From: Circuit World, Volume 36, Issue 3

IPC has bestowed its highest corporate honours to Raytheon Company and Du Pont. During the IPC Annual Meeting Luncheon held in conjunction with IPC APEX EXPO™, IPC awarded the Stan Plzak Corporate Recognition Award upon Raytheon Company and the Peter Sarmanian Corporate Recognition Award upon Du Pont. Leaders and innovators within their respective industries, both companies have been long-time IPC supporters.

The Stan Plzak Corporate Recognition Award is presented to a corporation (or division) in the electronics assembly industry that has taken initiative to actively contribute to enhancing the industry while demonstrating support of IPC through participation in technical and/or management programs. This award is named after a former board chairman, who was also a founding member of the IPC Electronics Manufacturing Services Industry Management Council, Stan Plzak.

Raytheon Company has been an IPC member since 1971 and currently has 18 member facilities. In total of, 77 Raytheon Company employees actively serve on IPC standards development committees with seven employees serving as chairs, vice chairs or co-chairs of committees on boards and assembly.

Standards committee work is a serious matter at Raytheon Company. “Continuous improvement is embedded in our culture at Raytheon,” says Steve Musante, Technology Area Director, Corporate Technology and Research at Raytheon Company. “As we contribute our time and resources to the constant improvement of the standards and specifications we need for our business, we provide IPC with access to a very large pool of talent and expertise. The fact that we have so many employees participating on multiple committees allows us to help bring consistency and quality to a broad range of standards and specifications.”

Named for a former IPC Board Chairman, the Peter Sarmanian Corporate Recognition Award honours an IPC member company in the PCB industry that has taken a leadership role and made contributions to the industry while demonstrating support of IPC through participation in technical and/or management programs. Du Pont has been an IPC member since 1964 with three member facilities. In total, 30 Du Pont employees hold 81 committee memberships and three employees currently serve as chairs or vice chairs of four committees.

When asked about Du Pont’s commitment to IPC, Peter Irvine, Global Business Director, Du Pont Circuit and Packaging Materials, said, “IPC creates an excellent forum for professional development. Our employees are exposed to people from across the entire industry value chain and so better understand major trends occurring in the industry and how we as a material supplier fit in this ecosystem. Through participation in standards setting committees, trade shows and other IPC sponsored events they actively learn how to get our materials recognized and qualified in the PCB industry. It’s a great honour for our company and a tribute to the many Du Ponters who have served IPC over the years.”
