Abstract

Whether you use the polite euphemism ‘shrinkage’ or the blunter term ‘shop theft’, the fact remains that losses through pilfering and as a result of staff dishonesty and carelessness constitute a sustained assault on your profits. Much can be achieved by a comprehensive management policy aimed at the reduction of losses: tighter stock control procedures, till disciplines, closer attention to layout, more care with staff recruitment. Losses which can become crippling, if left unchecked, can be reduced to the tolerable.
