Demonstrating the Deterrent

Abstract

LAST month we accepted the opportunity of visiting the Royal Air Force to witness the execution of Exercise ‘Mayflight’. This was designed to test as many aspects as possible of the offensive elements of Britain's contribution to the Western deterrent, and was held in conjunction with Exercise ‘Matador’, which examined Fighter Command's role of detecting and combating enemy activity as well as alerting the retaliatory strike forces of Bomber Command.
