Abstract

AN aircraft will begin to deteriorate from the time of manufacture and this process will continue throughout its service life. Corrosion in its many forms can greatly accelerate this deterioration whose severity will depend on structural design and materials used, the kind of protection employed and the operating environment. When corrosion damage remains undetected for a long time, structural integrity may be affected with potentially disastrous results.
