Abstract

One of the favourite topics of conversation at library systems user groups is the way in which systems impose terminology on the unwilling library customer. Systems designed in the US tend to offer the worst examples to British eyes (“patrons”, “holds”, “call numbers” and the like) but very few systems offer the total flexibility that the customer would really like.
