Abstract

The pattern of modern life in the Common Market countries is changing so rapidly that what I thought I knew of France over many years of visiting and serving on the Council of Europe and Western European Union proved to be completely out of date inside the three years since last I took a considered look at that ‘enfant terrible’ of the E.E.C. This fast changing pattern is obvious in all the other five Common Market countries too.
