Abstract

By far the most common enquiry I get about slimming is how to reduce surplus fat from one particular part of the body. This is normally referred to as ‘spot reducing’. Women who are worried about heavy thighs, thick waists and large bottoms, or men with bulging abdomens would dearly love to find a diet or some other kind of treatment that would miraculously melt away the fat from their ‘problem’ areas. Sad to say, there is no miracle cure, in spite of some manufacturers' claims that their garments, exercise belts and so on will do the trick. Even some doctors prescribe treatments, such as injections in the offending areas, but there is no easy solution. The slimmer has to be content with the fact that with a weight reducing diet fat will gradually be lost from all parts of the body, including the part which causes them the most anxiety.
