BIOTECHNOLOGY‐A SPARK OF NATURE'S FIRE
Abstract
To many people, biotechnology is the science of the future, and indeed many of the problems facing the world to‐day may be solved by the proper understanding, application and exploitation of the biological sciences for the benefit of man. But the science of biotechnology dates back to the early days of man's civilisation, long before the alchemists of the Middle Ages. In fact, civilised man always has been — and has had to be — a biotechnologist.
