Abstract

How many times have you heard ice cream described as a ‘junk food’? Probably it is because ice cream is such a popular food — it still ranks as the top favourite dessert among children — that many people find it hard to believe that something that is so nice to eat is also good for them. If we define a nutritious food as one which supplies several essential nutrients in addition to energy, then ice cream is nutritious. A normal portion of ice cream, about 100 ml, contains significant amounts of calcium, riboflavin and vitamin B and about 100 calories, depending upon the variety of ice cream you choose.
