Abstract

When the Seafish Authority was formed in 1982 there was a major problem to be tackled as far as fish was concerned. That fish had definitely lost ground was shown by people's attitudes to it. Fish was reckoned to be ‘good for you’, but all other connotations were wrong. Most people thought that fish was boring, difficult to buy, tricky to prepare and as far as most lifestyles were concerned, irrelevant. Fish was thought of as problematical and unrewarding.
