With more than 15,000 installations worldwide, SAP is playing a major role in helping companies to adapt to the introduction of the Euro currency in 1999. Beginning with R/3 Release 4.0, all releases will ship with the full Euro functionality. Moreover, SAP has confirmed that all existing SAP customers can receive the full SAP Euro functionality component in the form of release upgrades free of additional charge.

In addition, to help customers to be at the forefront of the Euro conversion, SAP has compiled the SAP Euro Guide, comprising an organisational manual, Euro-workshop and training materials as well as an implementation road map that enables SAP customers to tap the latest experiences of SAP consultants and customers. The SAP Euro Guide is regularly updated and incorporates the latest relevant experiences, questions, comments and suggestions.

Customers can access the SAP Euro Guide via the SAP Euro Information Forum in SAPNet (http://www.sap.com). The Euro Information Forum ensures that customers are well-versed in all things Euro. In addition to the SAP Euro Guide, the forum contains practical examples, project reports and potential strategies for converting standard applications and industry specific solutions to the Euro.

Customers using SAP R/3 Releases 3.0 and above as well as R/2 Releases 5.0 and above have at their disposal turnkey solutions providing the elements needed to fulfil the legal requirements of the new currency as well as the functions necessary for the dual-currency phase that begins 1 January 1999, including the Euro currency conversion and rounding logic as required by the European Union Council Regulation. The releases also support users when they convert local currency to the Euro.

Customers choosing to migrate to R/3 Release 4.0 will benefit from the rich functional additions with respect to the Euro and to a number of other generic and industry-specific application areas. Customers operating with the SAP mainframe application suite benefit from Euro functionality beginning with R/2 Release 5.0D.

Using the Euro functionality, SAP itself plans to be one of the first multinational companies to switch its local currency over to the Euro on 1 January 1999.
