Childless managers need work/life balance too

Keywords Managers, Children

This is an interesting survey by Management Today and Ceridian Performance Partners in which almost 2,000 managers were questioned about their attitudes to "family friendly" policies.

The results seem to show that not only parents needed more time for their children but the childless also needed more time to develop aspects of their lives outside work.

A kind of flexibility that allows time for everybody is the recommendation. It is interesting in relation to the results of this survey to note that during the 1974 three-day week, levels of production were almost up to the normal five-day week production levels. It surely suggests that there is a fair amount of room for flexibility.

Perhaps one of the most significant aspects of this piece of research is that it highlights the hidden dangers of biasing policies towards special groups instead of framing laws, where they are needed, for all alike.
