GEM 2009 Summer Workshop

21-26 June 2009, Snowmass Conference Center, Snowmass, CO, USA

The Geospace Environment Modeling (GEM) Program is a National Science Foundation Division of Atmospheric Sciences initiative to coordinate and focus research on the near-earth portion of geospace from the lower ionosphere to where the earth system interacts with the solar wind. GEM will be holding its annual summer workshop on June 21-26, 2009 at the Snowmass Conference Center in Snowmass, CO.

The purpose of GEM program is to support basic research into the dynamical and structural properties of geospace, leading to the construction of a global geospace general circulation (GGCM) model with predictive capability. The GGCM effort is now being treated as a separate campaign.

The strategy for achieving GEM goals is to undertake a series of campaigns, in both theory and observational modes, each focusing on particular aspects of the geospace environment. Further details are available at: www.cpe.vt.edu/gem/

Energy and Sustainability 2009

23-25 June 2009, Bologna, Italy

This international conference aims to bring together researchers and practitioners from academia, industry and government interested in current developments in energy systems. Energy systems have evolved over a long period and more rapidly over the last two centuries, as a response to the requirements of industry and society, starting from combustion of fuels to exploiting nuclear energy and renewable resources. It is clear that the evolution of the energy systems is a continuous process, which involves constant technological development and innovation.

This international conference will include topics related to sustainability in energy production, energy storage and distribution and energy management. Further details are available at:www.wessex.ac.uk/conferences/2009/energy09/index.html
