EEA project – using climate change scenarios to improve understanding of environment and security issues

Article Type: News from the net From: International Journal of Climate Change Strategies and Management, Volume 5, Issue 2

Acknowledging the analysis of security risks resulting from climate change as essential for effective policy-making, the Organization for Security Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) and the European Environment Agency (EEA) are running a joint project on “Security implications of climate change in the OSCE regions”.

Using a participatory-based scenario-building approach to explore complex and uncertain impacts stemming from climate change, the project aims to improve understanding of the links between global megatrends and environment, and the security of food, fuel and water in different regions. It also aims to enhance cooperation and networking among the main institutions addressing climate security issues. A concise project “brochure” provides an overview of the project and the results of workshops carried out so far. It can be downloaded here: www.eea.europa.eu/publications/using-scenarios-brochure-2012
