This regular issue of International Journal of Energy Sector Management is going for publication after the recent earthquake and Tsunami in Japan. The devastating earthquake of unprecedented magnitude has caused widespread destruction in the north-east of the country. We express our solidarity with the Japanese population at this crucial juncture. The natural disaster has left a long-lasting impact on the country and the subsequent nuclear power crisis at Fukushima will have a global impact in terms of management and use of energy supply facilities and resources. The bigger picture will only emerge over time but surely, the sector will see new dynamics as we appreciate and act on these new challenges.

This issue presents a number of research papers and a short note covering various aspects. We have included two survey papers providing state-of-the knowledge on the electricity markets and reactive power management. Other papers deal with a number of subjects: accident risks in hydrogen transportation, tools for practical assessment of combined heat and power, logistics management for oil exporters, and a set of papers analysing renewable energy issues.

We hope our readers will enjoy the issue.
