This book is an excellent historical background to some of the developments in medicine. I was particularly impressed with the Lancashire expressions, with which I was familiar from my childhood.

The information provided is in an easy to read style and is well referenced. It is very interesting to see that some of the previous treatments, which were used by various classes, actually do have their roots firmly within what we would understand as western medicine. The book is very easy to read; I actually could not put it down, and was very impressed with the way the past was linked to the present.

I am sure that this will prove an enjoyable and entertaining book and also, for anyone who is interested in alternatives to the therapies that we use today, this could prove quite interesting.
