Infotrieve, a market leader in article research and delivery, has announced the debut of its Virtual Library platform, a breakthrough means of locating, selecting, and purchasing published literature in a customised and co-branded environment. Operating as a free-to-search, pay-per-article system, the Virtual Library platform from Infotrieve is designed to deliver significant time and cost benefits to customers. This platform will also showcase two of Infotrieve's latest achievements: the free search tool Article Finder and the e-journal collection, a roster of over 500 electronic publications with pay-per-article selection.

Infotrieve has recently announced that Dow Chemical has signed multiple contracts with them for global document delivery and library outsourcing to the company. The three-year agreement with Infotrieve provides global document delivery, article fulfilment, and research text requests for Dow employees and corporate libraries, and furnishes onsite staff placement and operational support at Dow library facilities. Three Infotrieve divisions will be responsible for supporting Dow's extensive world-wide document retrieval needs:

  1. 1.

Infotrieve USA – will fulfil document delivery to North American Dow facilities.

  2. 2.

Infotrieve GmbH – will provide document delivery and local customer support for Dow orders in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

  3. 3.

AIC (Advanced Information Consultants) – will furnish onsite staff placement and operational support at several Dow facilities in North America.

Also announced is an agreement with CatchWord that will provide two-way linking of content and partnership on certain co-operative activities. CatchWord, the world's largest independent hosting service for scholarly and academic publishers (see later item reporting the merger of CatchWord with ingenta), will link the references they maintain on behalf of their publishers to Infotrieve's extensive free-to-search database of citations and abstracts, from which customers can select articles to purchase. Infotrieve will link to full-text articles on CatchWord's site once a publisher agreement is in place.

Known as "The Article Store," Infotrieve has assembled one of the world's largest libraries of article and journal content, a collection that is constantly expanding through the company's ongoing partnerships and alliances with publishers, content producers, and hosting services such as CatchWord. As part of their new agreement, Infotrieve will recommend CatchWord to publishers seeking Internet publishing services, while CatchWord will promote Infotrieve to the publishers that it services.
