Extended range of bearings from Glacier

Glacier DX, the leading marginally lubricated bearing material, is now available in over 400 standard sizes from stock including bushes, thrust washers and flat strip (see Plate 11). In addition, non-standard components are manufactured to customers' specifications including modified standard bearings, half bearings, deep-drawn, chamfered, pressed and stamped components.

DX is established as the leading marginally lubricated bearing material. Its composite structure consists of a steel backing with a porous bronze interlayer that is overlaid and impregnated with a pigmented acetal copolymer bearing material. The steel backing provides mechanical strength and dimensional stability while the bronze matrix provides a strong mechanical bond for the lining.

It operates with the merest trace of lubricant and to extend the lubricant life the bearing surface is provided with a uniform pattern of lubricant reservoir indentations. Life calculations enable the relubrication interval to be determined and for many applications this exceeds the required bearing life providing totally maintenance-free operation.

The thin wall structure of DX provides a light, compact bearing assembly that is able to support very high loads over a temperature range of 40° to +120°C. It is equally suitable for rotating, oscillating and sliding movements and is used in almost every form of machinery. The standard range is available from stock in all industrial countries, avoiding the necessity for the equipment manufacturer to hold stocks.

To provide further information on their DX bearings, Glacier has issued a new 50-page designers' handbook. This contains full design information including the calculations for bearing life and dimensional information of the stocked range of bearings. Glacier's new designers' handbook is available from Glacier Industrial Bearings, Riccarton, Kilmarnock KA1 3NA.
