New high performance Dichtomatik seals extend the range

Keywords: Dichtomatik, PTFE

New high performance PTFE seals have been added to the range of products available from Dichtomatik Ltd, which also includes "O" rings and rotary shaft oil seals. Most PTFE products are designed for dynamic piston and rod sealing when subject to linear thrust movements. However, seals for use with rotating shaft applications and static sealing can also be supplied.

The excellent properties of PTFE include resistance to most solvents and chemicals, with thermal stability at both high and low temperatures and very low coefficient of friction. This makes it particularly suitable for use in both hydraulic and pneumatic products, where its fatigue resistance, elastic memory and dependability at high speeds and pressures are also important.

However, other properties including the fact that it is water repellent, virtually non-flammable, impervious to weathering, with high electrical resistance and a suitability for use with food products means that PTFE seals have highly diverse areas of operation including the chemical and processing industries.

The piston and rod seals available from Dichtomatik have been designed to accommodate the trend towards product miniaturisation with associated increased sealing. Most assemblies combine a dynamic PTFE sealing ring with a static elastomer "O" ring as a secondary sealing element. In conditions of temperature extremes, however, where elastomers can lose effectiveness, then additional energising springs can be incorporated. These provide a mechanical pre-load with more durable elasticity features for greater sealing effectiveness.

Seals for both single and double acting cylinders, including reciprocating movements, can be supplied. Rod diameters from 4mm to 650mm can be accommodated with optional O/D and seal widths available in most sizes. Wiper seals are also available for rod and shaft sizes up to 750mm diameter. Piston seals can be supplied for cylinder bore diameters from 8mm to 660mm, also with a range of configuration and width options.
