Acquisition strengthens ergonomics capability

Acquisition strengthens ergonomics capability

Tecnomatix Technologies, the computer-aided production engineering specialists, has acquired AnySIM Simulationssysteme GmbH, a privately held company based in Munich, Germany.

AnySIM develops CAPE tools on the Windows NT platform for a range of manufacturing applications including human simulation, numerical control (NC) machining, laser cutting and metal stamping. Its ergonomics technology is incorporated in the Tecnomatix ROBCAD/Man product.

AnySIM employs 22 people and expects 1998 revenues to reach approximately $3 million. Among the users of AnySIM solutions are ABB Power Generation, Bayerische Lazer (BLZ), BMW, Bosch, Kuka Roboter, and Siemens. AnySIM has cooperation agreements with the two prestigious associations of human simulation technology for time and motion: Method Time Measurement (MTM), and Techmath, which produces the Ramsis human simulation.

Commenting on the acquisition, Harel Beit-On, President and Chief Executive Officer of Tecnomatix said, "AnySIM's business fits excellently into our growth strategy of expanding into new industries and broadening our product offering with ownership of state-of-the-art ergonomics technology. This will enable us to offer our customers in industries such as the electronics, automotive components and heavy machinery the most advanced solutions for simulating human operations in product assembly lines.

The acquisition also strengthens the Tecnomatix CAPE offering by providing additional applications on the NT platform. AnySIM's products include laser cutting, metal stamping, and a particularly exciting NC simulation and verification application, which enables a user to watch a part evolve on-screen as it is machined.

"Major companies such as Fiat, General Motors, Mazda, Renault V.I., and Volvo are all using ROBCAD/Man to design manual operations in manufacturing cells. The combination of Tecnomatix and AnySIM products will provide unsurpassed functionality and capabilities covering all aspects of human simulation," said Mr Beit-On.

Tecnomatix is a world leader in the development of Digital Factory technologies. Based on an integrated suite of CAPE (Computer Aided Production Engineering) software tools, the technology enhances productivity and speeds the development of new products by linking design and manufacturing processes. Applications cover all types of industries, from single process solutions to enterprise-wide implementations in the automotive, aerospace, consumer electronic and heavy machinery sectors.

Today, Tecnomatix offers a Digital Factory platform based on its product lines: ROBCAD, DYNAMO, SIMPLE++, VALISYS, PART and other enabling CAPE technologies.

Tecnomatix is a public company founded in 1983, listed on the NASDAQ market and employing over 500 people worldwide, half of whom are engaged in R&D work. In 1997 the company's sales revenues exceeded $59 millions which represents a cumulated average growth to 50 percent over the previous years.
