ISR 2002 International Symposium on Robotics Stockholm, 7-11 October 2002

Keywords: Introduction

This symposium (see Plate 1) will focus on robot-based automation with industrial IT – a combination creating new dimensions in the interrelations between supply chain and customer relation management. The change from traditional ways of doing business to the new e-business environment enables enterprises to bring new innovative and profitable solutions to the market in collaboration with partners. The evolving e-transformation will have a great impact on enterprises, societies, work organisations and social life.

Robot-based automation with industrial IT will influence almost all processes within an enterprise, from the shop floor to the top floor. The basic idea is to create seamless and real-time links between these processes in order to cut cost and time and add more value to the customer solutions.

The symposium will also cover service robotics. In connection with the seminars, a special Service Robot Show will be held at the Stockholm International Fair, covering state-of-the art methods and technologies.

Seminar blocksTechnology and research

These sessions will focus on robotics technology, ranging from new robot concepts to applications. Our aim is to present the latest in research findings. Modern and high-tech applications are of interest in this context. IT-based functions and solutions for the industry of tomorrow, both robot-related and other scientific areas having synergies with robotics, are particular, important.

Market and industry developmentThis seminar block will focus on how the impact of robot-based automation and industrial IT influences industry and market structure and on strategic opportunities and threats for enterprises across a broad spectrum of applications. We welcome papers describing developments in different economic/geographical areas and development of international standards.

Management implicationThis seminar block is focusing on management issues related to the implementation of robot- based automation and industrial IT in different businesses. Management issues concern both investments and reorganisation in individual and extended enterprises. Papers describing economic effects in terms of productivity and impact on work organisation and competence requirements are of particular interest.

Service roboticsIn terms of service robotics, the technology in robotics is gradually moving into many new application areas. Examples are service applications for traditional office work as well as for daily life. This new, growing market offers rich opportunities in terms of the adaptation of existing technology to new applications and of new approaches to the automation of everyday tasks. Papers describing interdisciplinary approaches, systems and technologies across application domains as well as emerging concepts for service robotics are particularly welcome.
