HY Robotics Ltd has been established in the UK for supply and support of six-axis industrial robots manufactured by Hyundai Heavy Industries Co. Ltd (HHI) in Korea. Eleven models are available in the HR and HX ranges, with payload capacity from 6 kg for the HR006 to 400 kg for the HX 400.

Mike Wilson, Managing Director of HY Robotics, comments “The Hyundai robot range covers the majority of industrial applications ranging from welding and light pick and place duties up to heavy palletised handling applications. These machines offer extremely good levels of functional capability and reliability at a very competitive unit cost” (Plate 1).

Robot development and manufacture is carried out by the Industrial Machinery Division of HHI. The company is Korea's market leader with production of over 1,500 robots per annum. That country's highly successful motor industry has provided an excellent proving ground for the machines.

Mike Wilson comments. “HY Robotics brings sharper focus to marketing and applications support of the machines in Europe. We have the benefit of a newly established technical support, stockholding and spares facility in Rotterdam. In addition we are expanding the pan-European network of independent robotic systems integrator partners to support applications in the field.”

A key aspect of HY Robotics activities is that it will not be operating as a systems integrator in its own right. As a result it will not be competing for business with its partners.

“This is an attractive proposition for our partners as they can develop applications and call on us for technical support without worrying about us poaching their business”, Mike Wilson added. “By contrast, where our partners have particular capability or have developed standardised systems using Hyundai robots we will aim to make that expertise available across the Europe-wide network.”

HY Robotics application partners in the UK currently include welding specialist Bauromat (UK) Ltd, based in Pershore, Worcestershire, and materials handling specialist Game Engineering Ltd, based in Lincolnshire.

Mike Wilson concluded, “Having high quality integrator partners like these means HY will be able to operate with low overheads, reinforcing the value-for-money aspect of a Hyundai robot based solution. We're confident that Hyundai will soon become a very well known robot brand across Europe”.
