Plasma-cutting robot cuts easily steel profiles

Article Type: New products From: Industrial Robot: An International Journal, Volume 37, Issue 3

Especially for cutting flanges as well as holes in steel profiles, Voortman has introduced last year a system onto the market in which a six-axis cutting robot from Valk Welding is integrated in a Voortman drilling and sawing system (Figure 2). With the application of this six-axis cutting robot, which is equipped with an oxy acetylene-cutting unit, all shapes both in flanges as in the main beam can be cut. This offers enormous freedom to efficiency produce constructions with complex shapes. The integration of the programming has been established by both companies software department and is exclusively due to its easy to use operation.

After the first supply of this V806M cutting system to a large German steel construction manufacturer, several systems have been supplied worldwide by Voortman, using the cutting robots from Valk Welding.

The youngest development is the possibility to equip this system with a plasma-cutting unit, integrated in the robot. With the nowadays modern plasma-cutting units, all cutting applications in steel profiles can be realized with higher cutting speeds, shorter cycle times, shorter exchange times and a higher process stability.

The first V806 profile cutting system with plasma unit will be supplied to a Canadian customer (November 2009). Based on the wish of the customer, the system is equipped with a Hypertherm HPR260 plasma-cutting unit with a capacity up to 32 mm (mild steel). It speaks for itself that also other plasma-cutting units from suppliers such as Kjellberg or others can be integrated in the system.
