Lifetime Achievement Award
Richard Jones
Richard Jones is an economist by training, having graduated from the University of Wales. His first teaching post was at the University of Manchester, from which he was seconded in the late 1970s to the Department of Training and Industry, as Senior Research Officer. This brought him into contact with the local textile and clothing sectors and encouraged him to move to Manchester Polytechnic (now Manchester Metropolitan University), which was developing the first degree level course in clothing studies. There existed a strong tradition of publication in the textile science and pure design areas of study but little in the business and management aspects of this subject. This gap is now filled by the Journal of Fashion Marketing and Management , developed by Richard and published by Emerald. In 2002 he achieved a long-held ambition to publish a major textbook on the UK clothing industry. Richard retires from full-time teaching in December 2003.
Nominated by Professor Simone Guercini, Editorial Advisory Board Member, Journal of Fashion Marketing and Management.
