Databank. Bonus for cancer services
Bonus for cancer services
Cancer services are to get a cash investment of a £150 million grant from the National Lottery New Opportunities Fund, it was announced recently. This biggest ever bonus the country has given to cancer services will help to deliver modern and dependable cancer services for the twenty-first century, saving thousands of lives with better prevention, detection and treatment. Over the next three years the £150 million will buy extra cancer scanners and X-ray machines, vital new cancer-killing treatments, wider access to cancer screening and better prevention with education and training. Cancer still affects almost every family in Britain at some time. Around one in three people develop cancer and one in four people die from it. All the evidence suggests that people who play the lottery support lottery money being spent on projects like this. Over the last 18 months the Government has invested an extra £30 million in breast and colorectal cancer services. Another £40 million will be given this year for breast, colorectal and lung cancer services and initiatives to speed up out-patient waiting times for suspected cancer.
