Real Nappy Week 2001

The Women's Environmental Network has chosen 23 to 29 April 2001 to be Real Nappy Week. It is to raise awareness of reusable cloth fitted nappies, terries and laundry services to offer alternatives to disposable nappies. Disposable nappies form 4 per cent of household waste in Britain costing the tax payer £40 million each year to dispose of them. More alarming, disposable nappies create 50 per cent of household waste from a family with just one baby. By converting to real nappies families can make a significant difference to their environment and to their children's future. Savings of up to £600 can be made on the cost of disposable nappies for a first child. This increases with second and subsequent children where the real nappies can be reused. West Sussex Local Authority is offering up to £30 cashback to anyone using real nappies as this is the sum estimated to be the cost of disposing of one baby's disposable nappies.
