NACC has been funding research into Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) since 1984. Since that time, understanding of Ulcerative Colitis and Crohn's has increased enormously, and the NACC grants have made a significant contribution in all areas: the role that genes and the environment play; ways of diagnosing IBD; and complications such as osteoporosis.
This year, NACC is publishing a review of NACC-funded research from 1984-2001, written by Dr Simon Travis. The review explains the important areas of research and how NACC's grants have contributed to the advances in understanding IBD.
NACC is also collaborating with the Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry (ABPI) on a new publication called "Target Crohn's and Colitis".
