Consultation of Draft Seeds Regulations issued by the Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA)

Consultation of Draft Seeds Regulations issued by the Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA)

Proposals for new draft regulations on the certification and marketing of cereal, fodder plant, oil and fibre plant, beet and vegetable seeds were issued for consultation together with a draft regulation covering the registration and licensing of companies and personnel.

This is the third and final consultation as part of a review of the way seed certification and marketing is carried out in England. Although Wales will be making separate, but similar regulations, this consultation is being circulated to interested parties in both England and Wales.

The aim of the new regulations is to ensure correct and transparent implementation of directives and, where possible, to reduce costs and bureaucracy for the seeds industry in England, while also maintaining the quality of seed marketed, which is the primary aim of the EC directives.
