British Dietetic Association Annual Conference

British Dietetic Association Annual Conference

The British Dietetic Association (BDA) (which is the professional association for State Registered Dietitians in the UK) held their annual three-day conference at the East Midlands Conference Centre in Nottingham.

The theme of the conference was "Promoting and protecting health".

The scientific programme covered a wide range of subjects including "nutrition and the immune function", "conjugated linoleic acid – is there a role in chronic disease?" and "diet and cancer". There were parallel sessions from some of the BDA specialist groups and interest groups.

For the first time, dietetic assistants, who are a fairly new profession, had a forum.

The conference also included a small trade stand exhibition. Poster presentations were given on the first day and included a wide variety of topics.

The final day of the conference included the BDA annual general meeting in the morning. This included a presentation from Professor Norma Brook about the new Health Professions Council, which supersedes the Council for Professions Supplementary to Medicine.
