Children and young people will soon be able to discover for themselves how they and their school can become healthier when new sections of the national Health Promoting Schools website (http://www.healthpromotingschools.co.uk) are launched by the Scottish Health Promoting Schools Unit on 19 January 2005 at Holytown Primary School in North Lanarkshire.

Specially designed sections for primary and secondary-aged pupils, as well as one for family and community members, are to be launched by pupils and parents of schools in North Lanarkshire, supported by Councillor Charles Gray, Education Convener, and Michael O'Neill, Director of Education.

The new web areas for children and young people will invite users to explore an interactive school using games, quizzes and facts designed to get pupils thinking about the features of a health promoting school and their own role in it.

The family and community members' section will have information, practical advice and tips on how family members and others can be involved in health promoting schools and help children to lead healthier lifestyles.

These important new additions to the website will complement the first phase, launched last spring, which is aimed at practitioners working to develop health promoting schools in Scotland. It contains lots of information, resources and examples of practice to assist those working in schools.
