The 8th London International Eating Disorders Conference, 29-31 March 2007, Imperial College, London

There are over 1.1 million people affected by eating disorders. This conference was very well attended by over 550 delegates from all over the world. The conference is held every two years and presentations included:

  • The neurobiology of eating disorders;

  • Season of birth bias in eating disorders;

  • Advances in evidence-based treatment;

  • Adolescent treatment outcome; and

  • Clinical care and challenges in the treatment of individuals with enduring eating and weight disorders.

The conference was supported by numerous short papers which were given concurrently. There was also a book launch of Eating Disorders in Childhood and Adolescence, 3rd edition – Bryan Lask and Rachel Bryant-Waugh, published by Routledge.

There was a poster session at each break. A small exhibition included:

  • Overeaters anonymous – www.oa.org which provides assistance to patients and health care professionals;

  • Beet – www.b-eat.co.uk – This provides support with a phone helpline, youth work programmes, research and website information;

  • Organisations providing programmes for those with eating disorders; and

  • Information on future conferences.
