Yakult partners with St Mark's Hospital

Yakult, the original probiotic drink, announced recently its sponsorship of St Mark's Hospital Foundation, the charitable arm of St Mark's Hospital.

Based in Harrow, north west London, St Mark's Hospital is Europe's leading centre for research into and treatment of colorectal disease. Since its inception in 1835, the hospital has always been at the forefront of pioneering surgery and treatment to return some quality of life to people with serious bowel conditions such as Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, cancer and polyposis.

"Yakult has been working for over 70 years to offer people a simple way to help support and maintain their digestive health", said Alan Jelly, marketing director of Yakult UK.

"Our founder, Dr Shirota was a scientific pioneer, creating the world's first probiotic drink to help maintain a healthy balance in our intestinal flora.

"By supporting St Mark's Foundation we hope to help them continue their pioneering work addressing the serious bowel conditions that people are diagnosed with every day."

St Mark's Hospital treats around 20,000 patients a year, and senior clinicians are continually looking at new ways to treat or prevent serious bowel disorders. The hospital is also home to the Burdett Institute, which promotes excellence in gastrointestinal nursing, research and practice.
