New Honorary Vice President Dame Deirdre Hutton CBE, Chair of the Food Standards Agency has accepted the position of Honorary Vice President of the Institute. The Award is in recognition of her outstanding contribution in the area of food science and technology.

Dame Deirdre has said, "It's a privilege for me to accept the position of Honorary Vice President. The Institute has an international reputation as the foremost Europe-based qualifying body for food professionals and, as the Agency relies heavily on the quality of its scientific evidence base, I am delighted to be so closely linked with an organisation that promotes and maintains the highest standards in the rofession."

IFST has published a Policy Statement on "Food Safety with reference to HACCP Principles". The Statement has been published in response to the Commission's proposal of an amendment to EC Food Hygiene Regulation (EC) 852/2004, so that certain food businesses with fewer than ten employees would be exempt from the requirement for food safety management procedures based on HACCP principles.

The Canadian Institute of Food Science and Technology (CIFST) and the Institute of Food Science and Technology (IFST) in the UK have recently signed a Co-operating Societies Agreement.
