The menopause

Article Type: Food facts From: Nutrition & Food Science, Volume 39, Issue 5.

Despite the recent massive success of Mama Mia, a celebration of menopause-age women if ever there was one, the media has a long way to go before it embraces the big M. Consider, for instance, the painful lack of 50-something women reading the news (unlike stiff-suited middle-aged men, who seem to dominate the presentation of TV news programmes) and the public ridiculing of amazing 50-plus female celebs who dare not act their age. Yes Madonna, we're talking about you.

The Menopause: Ask the Experts is a collection of questions sent in by real-life members of The Menopause Exchange, an organisation set up by Goldman to help women going through and approaching the menopause.

Aimed at women in their 40s and 50s, as well as those who are post menopausal and younger women who have experienced premature menopause or hysterectomy, The Menopause: Ask the Experts is written in an easy-to-read format and will allow readers to make informed decisions with the help of their health professionals about approaching and coping with the menopause.

It is also essential reading for those living with a woman who is going through the menopause, as well as health professionals who have patients of menopausal age, including general practitioners (GPs), nurses, pharmacists, dieticians, complementary practitioners and counsellors.
