Article Type: Food facts From: Nutrition & Food Science, Volume 40, Issue 5.

New soybean oil varieties, such as increased omega-3 soybean oil, are now being developed and both Monsanto and Solae recently announced that the US Food and Drug Administration has issued a generally recognised as safe (GRAS) notice confirming that stearidonic acid (SDA) omega-3 soybean oil can be used in foods and beverages in the US under the intended conditions of use. The GRAS notice allows the long-chain omega-3 oil to be used at levels that provide 375mg of SDA soybean oil per serving in products such as baked goods and baking mixes, breakfast cereals and grains, fats and oils, milk products, nuts and nut products, snack foods, confectionery, soups and soup mixes.
