Purpose – Examines the relationships between business-level strategies and firm-level performance in both multinational firms (MNEs) and domestic US semiconductor firms during the 1990s. Design/methodology/approach – Discusses global industries and business-level strategies, studying a total sample of 52 firms. Proposes the following hypotheses: MNEs had higher performance levels than domestic firms; domestic firms with focus low-cost strategies had higher performance levels than other firms; and MNEs which follow joint low-cost and differentiation strategies had higher performance levels than others.Article type: Research paperISSN: 1086-1718Reference: 38AY152
