Welcome to the second special issue within volume 22 with more planned for the next volume. I am especially grateful to the two guest editors – Professor Ka Ho Mok of The University Hong Kong and Dr Pak Tee Ng of the Nanyang Technological University, Singapore – for taking the time to put together this issue. The issue reflects the increasing thirst for knowledge of trends in the Far East – “Changing education governance and management in Asia” is representative of this. I have been most impressed by the cooperation and enthusiasm of the guest editors during this planning process following some initial contact at Asia Pacific Educational Research Association (APERA) in Hong Kong where I presented IJEMs work to a positive audience at the Institute of Education. The issue builds on that APERA symposium “Educational governance change in Hong Kong, Singapore and Malaysia”. Following that meeting the co-editors invited a number of contributors from Asia to participate in this project. My thanks go to them too for the contributions on this issue. As the editors state this issue offers a distinctive comparative perspective analyzing recent changes in education governance and management in selected Asian societies, including Hong Kong, Mainland China, Singapore and India.
